Tips for moving into a dorm for college?

I will be attending college in the fall as a freshmen. I will be moving into a dorm where i have my own room but i share the bathroom with another girl. The college i am going to is by the beach so it will be hot as well.
I am the oldest kid in my family so we are all unsure on what to get and buy but have found lists online. so what I was wondering was if anyone had tips for me on getting something or tips for setting my room up that would be beneficial. Any advise will be helpful! thanks.
