Best way to start packing.any moving tips?
~*Bella*~ asked:
It's Monday and we've reserved the rental truck for all day Wednesday. So that gives us just 2 days to pack for the move. We've really been putting it off for the last minute because we've both been working A LOT!! and now that I'm looking around, I'm feeling overwhelmed. We have way too much stuff and need to get rid of a lot of it..

What is the best way to go about packing? Which room is best to start with? Help!!

One very important tip…..
Mark EVERY box with the corresponding room it goes in.

Pack one room at a time. Mark the boxes clearly so you don't need to open them when getting to the new home. While packing, sort out the stuff that needs to be gotten rid of. Move all boxes close to the door where the truck will be parked so you don't have people running all over, especially if you need to clean before moving. Decide what things you will need right away at the new place and put them in "specially marked" boxes for ease of finding.

You did not give yourself much time. You will not have time to give stuff away. After you move, put things in a give away box. Then, give it away.
My movers told me that I could leave the clothes in the dresser drawers. If the dresser is too heavy, empty it, move the drawers, then the dresser. I do the same for my desk.
Lable the important stuff (the stuff that you need to find after you move).
Also, do a change of address form.

pack everything that you don't use on a daily basis
start with you kitchen, you should be able to pack everything but refridgerated food, just order a pizza or whatever for a day or two
utilize your space, drawers usually come out to make dressers lighter to carry, pack the drawers full and use them like boxes
find a few days worth of clothes and cram the rest into garbage bags
take your furniture apart, like beds, and just sleep on the mattress, this way you aren't taking things apart while you're loading.
if you have helpers that are following the rental truck, pack small items in their vehicles, things like the food and clothes
send pets and kids to the sitter for the day

Start in the bedrooms, Good hint wardrobe boxes are awesome you can hang your clothes in them so no need to take them off the hanger and use them when your done moving to store seasonal clothes in. The kitchen is probably going to be the hardest because of all the gadgets and stuff. don't forget bubble wrap or news print for your breakables and just take one room at a time.
Good luck!

mark the boxes as to which room they will belong in.A must keep the tea/coffee making things handy and some sandwiches you feel so much better having a break in between.Good luck in your new home.

I'm moving house this Friday too.
I think you need to spend time like me ditching stuff you no longer need. A very helpful website is called FREECYCLE (A place to give decent items a new home for free). This might help if you really dont want them anymore..
Ive collated paperwork/receipt I dont need ready for burning (my way of fraud prevention!)
Clothes are my last item for packing and I will simply bung them into Ikea Blue bags as they are very strong and cheap at 30p each. Better than boxes anyday.
DVD/Videos/books can be collected up pronto now/..
Cutlery/ Plates : Just keep out the number of plates/cutlery cups you need and pack the rest. Then when you need to move shove the loose ones into foot wells of your car.
Kids can sleep on mattresses if theyre in high beds and they need taking down. Bag up there clothes now and dismantle wardrobes for the ready.
Eat your way through the freezer quickly so you can make it travel !!! Or make sure youve got cool bags, or a friendly relative who could assist.
Furniture can just shift from there spot on the day!
Hope my advice helps x

Pack for the room it is going to – think DESTINATION. Do not mix contents of boxes (i.e. kitchen with living room) or unpacking will be a disaster (my husband did this – look there is room in here! I will stikck in x… ack!).
Get rid of unused stuff.
Pack clothes and soft, unbreakable stuff in garbage bags – but mark them with ribbons or something so you know they are clothes, not garbage.
Do not make boxes too heavy… while you may have energy at the beginning, at the end, you are tired and less heavy boxes are nicer. But true a bunch of boxes does seem overwhelming.
I pack books into milk crates so they do not explode and limit the amount that can go into them so they do not get so heavy.
Make sure you pack one box that is UNPACK ME FIRST – it has essentials like toilet paper (a few rolls), cleaning supplies, paper towels, bottles of water, etc. so you can get rolling cleaning up at the new place but be prepared if nature calls and not have to run out to the store.
Do not label boxes with valuables with labels that show that they have items of value in them (jewelry box!) of they may disappear. Either give those items to friends to hold to deliver after the move or hand carry the items, or label them so that you know and no one else does.
Start with the kitchen and work your way out from there. Discard duplicates and garbage. Two days is short but hope you have a lot of boxes and supplies such as paper and tape! Good luck!

You eat an elephant one bite at a time….
1) Throw out what you don't want to take with you.
2) label boxes as to their location at the new destination
3) Don't pack any heavier than you can comfortably and safely lift.
4) Wrap anything breakable in old newspaper or clothes. Mark those boxes as fragile.
5) use Dollies or 4 wheel carts to move heavy items
